HotSite:
Ever wonder what happens to a politician once out of office? Well, outside of Bill who seems to show up everywhere and Jimmy Carter who is busy doing good deeds, most politicians seem to just fade away. Just where do they go? - well the political graveyard of course. Politicalgraveyard.com tells the tale of politicians both dead and alive - until they are down for the count…i.e. dead and buried.
Created in 1996, PoliticalGraveyard.com is the work of Lawrence Kastenbaum, attorney, academic, preservationist, and hosts one of the web's largest databases on the political players of the past. With a listing of 81,279 politicians, this site allows you to search their data for names, dates, offices held, general bio information, everything you would want to know down to their final resting place.
Graveyard not only houses an exceptional database of national cemeteries, and related links, but also gives you information on past Democratic National Conventions dating back to 1832 and Republican National Conventions dating back to 1856 - we're talking about locations, dates, and when available, even the delegations that attended.
The site has a great search function and categories listing. You want to know what politicians were entertainers before taking the political plunge and the only one you can think of is Ronald Reagan? - search here. Want to know how your favorite, or not-so-favorite politician died - this site has it listed by category - everything from assassinations to dying in harsh weather conditions. Did you know that Archibald McNeill, a member of the North Carolina House of Commons, State Senate and US Congress died in a desert sandstorm in 1849? Imagine what you can "dig" up if you spend enough time here.
Political Spin:
This site is a political speechwriter's dream. When it comes to politicians of the past or general political fact checking, this site can't be beat. Also, for those simply organizing a lot of data, this is a good site to analyze. It has an enormous amount of data and it's easy to find and well laid out. Next time you have to go to one of those political cocktail parties or fundraisers, take five minutes on this site and you'll come up with all sorts of obscure and interesting facts to astound and amaze even the most hardened political junkie.
