Goodbye Change.gov, Hello WhiteHouse.gov
The Obama administration has taken over the reigns at WhiteHouse.gov, saying in the first blogpost,"Just like your new government, WhiteHouse.gov and the rest of the Administration's online programs will put citizens first."
Continuing in the first blogpost, Macon Phillips, the director of new media for the White House, said, "Millions of Americans have powered President Obama's journey to the White House, many taking advantage of the internet to play a role in shaping our country's future. WhiteHouse.gov is just the beginning of the new administration's efforts to expand and deepen this online engagement." Their new media efforts are centered around three points:
- Communication - Through the briefing room, email updates and the blog, Americans will be able to stay up-to-date on all the happenings in the Obama WhiteHouse.
- Transparency - The President's executive orders and proclamations will be published for everyone to review
- Participation - They will publish all non-emergency legislation to the website for five days to allow the public to review the documents before the President signs them.
WhiteHouse.gov has received a fair amount of criticism for its complete expulsion of any materials regarding George W. Bush. There is little more than four biographies, including W.'s, Laura Bush and their two daughters,
