Over 6.6 million e-mails have flooded the inboxes of Swedish lawmakers who recently passed what has been called "the most far-reaching eavesdropping plan in
Expressen, a Swedish tabloid newspaper, is responsible for creating the email script that has been sent 6.6 million times to the 143 lawmakers that voted ‘yes’ to the FRA law.
The Swedish Government, planning to make the law affective in January 2009, has been faced with an online protest against the legislation. Those for the legislation claim that there is no civil liberties being violated and that the law has been created as a security measure against attacks by tech-savvy terrorists.
The FRA law, passed two weeks ago, will allow
’s National Defense Radio Establishment to eavesdrop on all cross-border emails, phone calls and faxes without a court order. A poll revealed that only 31% of Swedes are for the FRA Act.
As one blogger put it, “The surveillance and information gathering will become the [Swedish]national standard…Privacy will be a historical artifact.
